YASMINE TAMARA

BIOGRAPHY

Yasmine Tamara was born and grew up in Zurich. Impassioned by music since her childhood, Yasmine Tamara began studying the piano when she was 7, and very quickly her teachers recognised an exceptional talent with remarkable musical hearing. At heart a naturally eclectic artist, even then, when she was 10, she composed her first songs before experimenting with theatre and performing in several works in Zurich. It was at 20 that she discovered her ability to perform in public and before long Yasmine integrated herself into the Swiss music scene and became one of the most sought after vocalists.

This apprenticeship in the business of performing was to be terrific learning ground for her and gave her the confidence and insight to one day realize her ambition to become a solo artists.

After hundreds of various recording sessions and concerts, notably as lead singer with the Swiss funk band “GMF” Yasmine decided to make that commitment to concentrate on her own musical ideas and visions. At the time, a brave move from the safe haven of her old band that had such a solid reputation.

In 2003 Yasmine signed to Universal Records Switzerland and sometime later released her debut solo album TRANQUIL to great media enthusiasm. This album was the defining point of Yasmine’s career to this point. After the release and rounds of Promotion Yasmine felt it was time to move onto the next phase of her career. This move almost happened by accident. After a long day of writing and recording some new demos for that 'difficult' second album at the BALIK FARM Studio in the mountains high above Zurich she decided to have a little break. Yasmine went to sit in the library that once belonged to German Actor and Director 'Hans Gerd Kubel.' Whilst sitting looking through the shelved volumes she plucked out a book of William Morris’ poems and that 'EUREKA' moment happened, and as they say 'life was never the same again'!

Whilst reading those words she realized that this book was the key she'd been looking for. Along with her Co-composer Peter Rebeiz, they embarked on a long sojourn into the world of Victorian poets and the observations of life that they so often highlighted. After a number of false starts they eventually had generated what is about to become known as 'AUGURIES OF INNOCENCE.' The album will be made available to the public via ITUNES on June 1st 2010. Later in the year it will have a physical release on CD.

As part of this journey Yasmine was invited to perform a benefit show forSWISS TELETHON accompanied by a SYMPHONY ORCHESTRA at Geneva's VICTORIA HALL debuting some of those songs, causing a stir and resulting in TELETHON asking YASMINE to become a 'GOOD WILL AMBASSADOR' for their work into Genetic Diseases in Switzerland. A role she was honored to accept.

In 2011 Auguries Of Innocence will be Performed in Various Swiss Cities, Yasmine will be making a regular Webcast from the very room that inspired her to write and record these works. A rare insight into the Artist and the Composer at work.
1st June 2010.
